Western Africa Ebola Epidemic - 2014

The current Ebola virus epidemic, in Western Africa, was first offically reported in March 2014. However, it can be traced back to one village, in Guinea, December 2013.

A lack of funding, past experience and available treatment are all contributing factors to why this Ebola epidemic went unnoticed for 3 months. In order to try and prevent furture scale Ebola epidemics, new medication to treat the symptoms need to be developed fast.

Our generation will have the opportunity to make a difference, by helping to develop a worldwide prevention programme. However, in order to do this, it is important to have a wide understanding of current news affairs surrounding the  international issue taking place today. This includes the impacts and implications, both for African nations, and potentially the Western World.

This website is designed to inform you of the emerging threat of Ebola to our future. Raising awareness of the devestating and widespread impacts that the Ebola virus can cause, and promoting donations,  enable the idea of a suitable wide scale treatment plan more viable.

Normally located on a small scale in sub-saharan Africa, the current Western Africa Ebola virus has never occured in this location before.  Concequently, a lack of knowledge and equiptment contributed to the spread of the virus, and why it went unnoticed for 3 months.

Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia is where the current 2014 outbreak is located. Here, a dense population, poor sanitation and health facilities have meant trying to reduce the spread has been difficult. There has been many impacts to the local populaitons including: unemployment, food distributuion, cultural differences and mistrust of the government.

With no current treatment developed, how long before one reaches the market? What techniques are being applied at diiferent levels and scales?
